The Fear Street series from R.L. Stine from the late 1980s into the mid 1990s. I remember as a kid being absolutely terrified to read the next line, yet being unable to put the book down.
I haven't read any R.L. Stine, but my son loves the Goosebumps books and he won't read them before bed. New follower!

I loved and still love John Bellaires. the first time I read 'The House With the Clock in its Walls', I couldn't sleep for a week!
